 INTENSIVE SERVICES Minimize

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION FOR INTENSIVE AND TRAINING SERVICES

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program is federally funded and designed to assist Dislocated Workers or financially eligible individuals with intensive job search and/or training services. To participate in WIA services you must meet eligibility and program requirements.

Attend the Workforce Investment Act Overview to learn more about the services and application process for WIA. Register for the WIA Overview by calling 610-437-5627, extension 263. Prior to registration you must have attended a PA CareerLink "Introduction to Services" session and completed your PA CareerLink online enrollment.

WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT ELIGIBILITY  (Required Documentation:  Proof of US citizenship or eligibility to work status, proof of current address, social security number, and, if applicable, verification of Selective Service Registration)

  • You must be a US Citizen or eligible to work in the United States
  • You must be a resident of either Lehigh or Northampton County  (If you reside outside this area, you will need to contact your local PA CareerLink office.)
  • You must have a social security number
  • You must complete your PA CareerLink Enrollment including your online resume, Civil Rights Statement, and Job Preferences
  • If you are a male born on or after January 1, 1960, you must be registered for Selective Service
  • You must be either a Dislocated Worker or be Income Eligible 

      What makes me a Dislocated Worker?  (Required Documentation:  Letter of layoff from company, if applicable, Unemployment Compensation check stub, pay stub indicating part-time hours, if working)

  • You were permanently laid off from a job within the last two years of your WIA registration date or have received notice of a layoff (Temporary agency assignments must have been 6 months or longer to qualify)
  • You are eligible to collect or have exhausted your Unemployment Benefits
  • You are working 28 hours or less per week and your current gross weekly wages are 80% or less than your gross weekly wages from your job of dislocation
  • You are not working at a job that is similar to the position you were laid off from

      What makes me income eligible?  (Required Documentation:  Pay stubs for all family members for last 26 weeks, Public Assistance and/or SSI award letter, documentation of disability)

  • You meet the Total Gross Family Income Guideline for the number of people in your family
    or
  • You or your family is receiving General Assistance, Food Stamps or SSI
    or
  • You are a person with a documented disability and meet the Total Gross Family Income for a family of one

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
  • Attend a PA CareerLink "Introduction to Services" session and complete your PA CareerLink online enrollment (Resume, Job Preferences, Civil Rights, etc.)
  • Attend required workshops and sessions prior to WIA Enrollment
  • Supply documentation for program eligibility
  • Work with PA CareerLink staff to develop and accomplish your employment goals
  • Provide program information throughout training, job search, job placement, and a follow-up period of 12 months

      To be considered for training services:

  • You must have a High School Diploma or GED at the start of your training program
  • You must not have marketable or in demand skills to be considered for training
  • You must use any other training funds you may be eligible for prior to the start of WIA funding
  • You must be seeking full-time employment of 30 hours or more after your training completion
  • You must meet the training provider's entrance requirements
  • You must request training in a High Priority or Demand Occupation for the Lehigh Valley area
  • You must complete training within 24 months from the start of WIA funding

The maximum training amount is $6,000 per person.

WIA Overview Session
Session dates, times, and registration are available at the Greeter's Desk in the Career Resource Center or by calling 610-437-5627, extension 263.  Please report to the receptionist 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Sessions start promptly and late arrivals will not be permitted. Be prepared to stay at least 1 hour.
